12th COVID 19 UPDATE June 11, 2020

Although, by the authority of the Premier Doug Ford, it's been reported that implementation of Phase 2 of the Province's strategy to reopen ce1tain businesses and service providers, we will continue to operate the status quo. Restricted access to our community will remain in place, with services.

  1. Restricted Access to Administration Building (Band Office)
In order to practice social distancing, you will find that the front door to the Administration office is locked. We continue to take the threat of COVID 19 very seriously and in an attempt to prevent exposure to staff and member alike, we have taken this precaution for safety reasons. During these unprecedented times, the finance staff that report to work are realizing there is limited time to process the numerous new transactions in addition to their regular duties, and we appreciate everyone's patience, as we attempt to complete everything on time. If you have any questions or concerns relating to a financial matter, I ask that you make all inquiries in a respective manner, as staff have been advised to respond.

  2. Restricted Access (Roadblocks) Pickerel R Rd. and Bekanon Rd.
The restricted access via the roadblocks that are currently in place, were created to protect members from an unimaginable viral threat that could have fatal consequences. But recently, another security threat is concerning; members driving under the influence. If you will recall, in the 7th COVID 19 Update, the issue of how the security teams have been instructed to deal with drivers under the influence was mentioned.

The directive to security is; if a driver is suspected or clearly under the influence of alcohol and attempting to come into the community, the driver will not be permitted to cross the security gate but will be asked to park their vehicle, and allowed to walk in. We understand that the security teams put in place are not there to act as OPP, but if a member decides to drink and drive, and wants to leave the community, know this, security has been advised to call the OPP and report it.

  3. New Garbage Pickup Days
Remember, NEW GARBAGE DAYS are now; Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays

  4. Food Distribution
The next scheduled date for food distribution is June 15, 2020, please contact Lyndy McQuabbie by calling the Administration office on Tuesdays or Thursdays or by private text to (705) 988-4021.

  5. Our FIRE BAN remains in place.
Permitted Campfires for cooking or warmth DO NOT LEAVE campfire unattended. Not Permitted Fireworks, burning of brush/grass

  6. Gas Bar
Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the contractor's control, inspections for hydro and new pump installations are expected to delay the reopening of the Gas Bar, to potentially now the week of June 22nd, 2020.

  7. Student Summer Employment
If interested in working this summer please submit your resume to Genevieve S Dubois, Education Counsellor. You may fax or email her at the following: Fax (705) 857-3021 Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

  8. Locations to be tested for COVID 19
     - Health Sciences North Sudbury, ON
     - West Parry Sound Health Centre, Parry Sound, ON

  9. COVID 19 in First Nations
We continue to monitor confirmed COVID 19 cases in First Nations across Canada, we are not aware of any cases in our immediate area.

Remember if you need to go out, make sure it's for a good reason.

Miigwetch to everyone for their continued efforts to heed the directives and practice recommended safety precautions, because of this, we remain unaffected.
