Licensed Carpenter - Full Time

Pickerel Contracting Ltd. is seeking an experienced and dedicated Licensed Carpenter to join our team full-time. Reporting to the Housing Manager, the Licensed Carpenter will be responsible for the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of residential and community buildings in Henvey Inlet First Nation. This position requires strong technical skills in both structural and finishing carpentry. The successful candidate will be dependable, safety-focused, and capable of working independently or as part of a team. Opportunities for career growth and advancement are available.


JOB DETAILS

  • Employment Type: Full-time (40+ hours per week)
  • Start Date: To be determined
  • Application Deadline: Open until filled
  • Compensation: To be discussed during the interview process

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret and apply blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
  • Construct, install, and repair structural components such as walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, and stairs.
  • Complete interior finishing work including drywall, flooring, trim, cabinetry, and painting.
  • Build and repair exterior features such as decks, siding, porches, and roofing systems.
  • Prepare and pour concrete, including formwork for foundations and slabs.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with building codes.
  • Safely operate and maintain carpentry tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to apprentices and laborers.
  • Assist with the preparation of estimates, material lists, and project records.
  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors, clients, and other trades to support timely project delivery.
  • Adhere to Federal and Provincial Building Codes, Workplace Health and Safety Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in carpentry or residential maintenance.
  • Red Seal Certification is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in the safe use of carpentry tools and equipment.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and working in various weather conditions.
  • Current First Aid & CPR (Level C), or willingness to obtain.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector CPIC (required upon hire).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work independently or within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and mentorship when required.
