10th COVID 19 UPDATE May 28, 2020
As each day passes, we continue to monitor the COVID 19 reports of new cases, and they are not going down. Today, we've discussed the following:
- Restricted Access (Roadblocks) Pickerel R Rd. and Bekanon Rd.
Members with spouses that may be nonmembers of HIFN are allowed into the community, however when these visits occur, we expect no unnecessary contact with on-reserve members. -
Food Distribution
The next scheduled date for food distribution is June I, 2020, please contact Lyndy McQuabbie by calling the Administration office on Tuesdays or Thursdays or by private text to (705) 988-4021. -
Re-Opening the Administration
Staff of HIFN we want your input on how we possibly re-open, if you haven't already done so, please check your email on the memo circulated on May 20, 2020. -
Fire Ban
Please respect the current FIRE BAN in place, CAMPFIRES for cooking or warmth are only permitted. If you make a fire, al no time is our cam fire to be left unattended. Fireworks and burning of brush or grass is still prohibited. -
Gas Bar
Upgrade to our Gas Bar has begun, you will see new pumps and a new larger building constructed this week. Unfortunately, you will not be able to purchase gas this week and or next. Please note the Gas Bar will be shut down Tuesday, June 2, 2020, & Thursday, June 4, 2020, as well to complete. -
Student Summer Employment
Student summer employment is currently on our minds. We are currently attempting to determine how many students are interested in working this summer and how we will manage this. If a graduating Grade 8 student entering a secondary level school is interested in working this summer please submit your resume to Genevieve S Dubois, Education Counsellor. This applies to any secondary level students as well.

Locations to be tested for COVID 19
As you may be aware from watching the news, Premier Doug Ford encourages everyone to be tested for COVID 19. You may do so, at the following locations by calling and making an appointment prior:
- Health Sciences North Sudbury, ON
- West Parry Sound Health Centre, Parry Sound, ON
Be advised that following testing you will be expected to self-isolate for 14 days. -
Community Clean Up
Thank you to all who participated in our Community Clean Up ofNonHousehold garbage on May 19, 2020. Unfortunately, there was a sorting issue of the material delivered to the Key River Landfill, and we were unable to make any further deliveries. So, if you still have Non-Household garbage that requires to be taken away, please be patient, we will announce when we will do another cleanup. - COVID 19 in First Nations
We continue to monitor confirmed COVID 19 cases in First Nations across Canada, we are not aware of any cases in our immediate area.
Remember if you need to go out, make sure it's for a good reason;
- To purchase groceries
- Pick up prescriptions
- Attend a medical appointment/procedure
- Practice good hygiene, wash, sanitize your hands frequently, social distance, and WEAR A MASK.
When issues are brought forth, there's a lot of discussion and in some instances, we definitely struggle with the decisions that need to be made. We appreciate your cooperation and heeding the directives we create, it's for your ultimate safety.
